MOORHEAD—A local veteran never dreamed his Moorhead home would deserve so much TLC. When the non-profit group, "Rebuilding Together", offered to give Bill Berquam a hand with a small home project, they discovered the 1912 home needed more than just a touch-up.

Russ Richards and Larry Ornberg make a good team; the volunteers with "Rebuilding Together" know how to turn a century old home with critical needs, into Veteran's Dream.

"I thought they will fix my kitchen sink or something but i got a whole new house," said Bill Berquam, Veteran.

Berquam is a Vietnam Veteran, and recently, he came back from the dead.

"Cardiac Arrest, with complications, but I have had a triple bypass and so I am coming back," said Berquam.

Bill's 1912 home in Moorhead just wasn't suitable for much anymore, he slept upstairs and used his bathroom downstairs.

So, Rebuilding Together, which helps veterans in need, got to work.

Not only wiring and plumbing, but sewer, water, and a kitchen, much of it coming from contractor donations.

"It is a community effort and hope people understand what we do, this is not for us, but for the community," said Russ Richards, Rebuilding Together.

For Bill, it's a great life lesson.

"Renews your faith in humanity, all the volunteers and donations," said Bill.

Not only that, once his heart heals, Bill has a plan.

"I am going to pay it forward and if they will let me, I will join them," said Bill.

This year alone, the group "Rebuilding Together" has helped 30-veterans and their families in our area.
