WEST FARGO – A man fatally shot by members of the Red River Valley SWAT team after a standoff on Monday, March 12, has been identified. West Fargo officials said the man was Justin Lee Dietrich, 32. West Fargo Police Chief Heith Janke said Monday that the incident began about 8:30 p.m. when a West Fargo officer tried to pull over Dietrich – who was suspected of possessing stolen handguns. However, the attempted traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase through the city.
WEST FARGO -- The West Fargo School District has named three finalists for the superintendent position, which includes one internal candidate. The finalists are Beth Slette, West Fargo assistant superintendent of elementary education; Pelican Rapids (Minn.) Superintendent Randi Anderson and Ben Johnson, Bismarck, assistant superintendent of secondary education.
WEST FARGO – West Fargo Public Schools Superintendent David Flowers has announced he will retire June 30, 2018. According to a statement from the district, the West Fargo School Board will consider Flowers’ letter of intention to retire at its Monday, Dec. 11, meeting.

FARGO – A funeral for Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, whose killing has prompted outpourings of grief around the region, will be held this week in Fargo. The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at First Assembly Church, 3401 25th St. S.
LISBON, N.D. – A Lisbon family is grieving the loss of a 14-year-old girl who was fatally struck by an SUV while riding a bicycle Thursday morning, July 20, on a gravel road. Teena Elijah told The Forum that her daughter, Bethany Elijah, was the victim of the crash.
WEST FARGO – A firm called Bat Pros hired by the school district here to investigate what bit a staff member and student last week at L.E. Berger Elementary School hasn’t yet found the culprit, but the mystery critter behind the biting probably wasn’t a bat.
WEST FARGO—West Fargo Police Chief Mike Reitan is on administrative leave. West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern confirmed late Friday afternoon that Reitan was placed on leave by the city. The move came after the City Commission met with its attorney for more than an hour in a closed-door meeting regarding an "employment matter" Friday, Jan. 13. Notice of the meeting was sent to media outlets less than an hour before it was set to start.

WEST FARGO—It's been 18 months since 6-month-old Owen Skodje died after he was found unresponsive at an unlicensed day care here, but while the investigation into his death has grown dormant, police say the only open potential homicide case in the city is not yet considered cold. Runcorn said he plans to conduct additional interviews in early 2017. Owen, the son of Casey Skodje and Kristin Hunstad of Fargo, was found unresponsive at day care about 1 p.m. June 1, 2015. He was hospitalized in Fargo before dying the next day at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.
