And when local band Hardwood Groove played at a Zorbaz for a Lakeshirts employee appreciation event Friday night on Memorial Day weekend, it was shut down at 11:15 p.m. after a neighbor complained to police.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—An Alexandria man has been charged in Becker County District court after he allegedly led a deputy on a dangerous high-speed chase Saturday afternoon in and around Detroit Lakes and then fought with officers.. Christopher Paul Elliott, 33, was allegedly driving a vehicle that was moving "all over the road and into oncoming traffic" on Highway 34 in Becker County, according to a complaint received by Becker County Sheriff's Dispatch at 1:48 p.m. Saturday.
The White Earth secretary-treasurer and tribal chairman have filed charges against each other, seeking to have each other censured and removed from office. White Earth Secretary-Treasurer Tara Mason has accused Tribal Chairman Terry Tibbetts of wrongfully obtaining more than $63,000 from the tribe's general fund when he and two other council members left office in 2014.

Wells Fargo Bank in Detroit Lakes was shut down for a brief time Tuesday afternoon after a protester locked herself to a table in the lobby. Disabled veteran Jessie Campbell left after about 20 minutes of negotiation with local law enforcement and bank officials. She was not arrested. She was one of a dozen or so protesters who picketed outside Wells Fargo after arriving from Camp Turtle Island - Water Protector Sanctuary, located at the intersection of County Road 4 and Highway 113 in the center of the White Earth Reservation.
A man who was struck and killed by a train Sunday was born and raised in Detroit Lakes, loved spending time with his 8-year-old son, and had been looking forward to foraging for wild mushrooms with his brother. Joseph Merten Mackner, 41, of Detroit Lakes was reportedly walking southbound on the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks about a mile north of Detroit Lakes when he was struck by a southbound train just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Mackner was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
A disabled veteran, now recovering from a liver transplant, and his little sheltie-type dog will have to find a new home, and a 70-year-old woman will lose her rental income, courtesy of the Detroit Lakes City Council. The veteran, Brian Fraser, choked up at the thought of giving up his dog while addressing the council. "I cannot afford to move," he told the council. "This place is the only home I have, I need my dog as well ... I'll lose him if I lose my home."

An influx of outdoor mice has area homeowners on the verge of mouse madness. Mouse traps and mouse bait have been selling at record levels, exterminators are staying busy and people who have never had house cats before are bringing in "mousers" to join the fight. On its Facebook page, the Detroit Lakes Tribune asked if people were having worse-then-usual mice problems this year.
Detroit Lakes, MN - Ah, the sweet smell of success: The new $2.9 million Becker County transfer station should be open next month, and it will offer drive-through service to residents and commercial waste haulers alike. With a 12-foot-high concrete foundation, a 38-foot-high ceiling and 16,000 square feet of steel building, the new transfer station will be a big improvement over the much smaller existing building.
