New rule proposal could allow true freshman to retain eligibility
WDAY-TV -- The young men that will make their commitments official on National Signing Day could be on the field in September and yet retain their freshmen eligibility.
It's a new proposal put forth from the American Coaches Assocation that has their approval, where freshmen can play any four games and keep their freshman eligibility.
NDSU had three true freshmen play this season, two had big contributions in the postseason in Seth Wilson and Josh Hayes.
This legislation has plenty of momentum and could change how rosters are structured going forward.
This would only be for Division 1 football, the Oversight Committee is set to vote on it in April.
