FARGO - It's been the one player that has eluded NDSU football over the past five years: the tall, lanky wide receiver.

Chris Klieman hopes he's finally found that player in Zach Mathis, of Tampa Bay, Fla.

Mathis tweeted Wednesday that he has verbally committed to play at NDSU.

He's 6'6, 194 pounds, and racked up 20 catches for 315 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Berkeley Prep head coach Dominick Ciao told WDAY-TV Sports Director Dom Izzo that Mathis loved his visit to Fargo and felt like it was a great place for him to play football.

"He has tremendous ball skills, one of the greatest pass catchers I have ever coached," Ciao said.

Mathis played both wide receiver and free safety in high school, amassing those offensive numbers on a team that doesn't throw a lot.

Mathis also received offers from Boston College, Air Force and UMass.

Mathis joins Jasir Cox as NDSU football's February signees. NDSU's official signing day is two weeks away.
