2014 Fall Camp Tour: Detroit Lakes Lakers

Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - You can expect terrific football in Lakes Country each year and because of that, expectations are always high.

Day two of our Fall Camp Tour took us to Detroit Lakes, and here are the First Down Friday Facts on the Lakers.

They finished 9-2 last season, including a 2nd straight appearance at state.

But, with only 4 starters returning on each side of the ball, the road could be much tougher…

It's a picture perfect day in Lakes Country, and for the Laker football team, the message early in camp is simple.

RC: Win the day… Every rep, go as hard as you can.

FM: We got a lot of stuff in for day two already. They've seemed to grasp it all and they're pretty smart football players.

For the last four years, the Lakers offense has featured one of the top quarterbacks in the state.

Going from Joe Mollberg to Michael Herzog… But, this year's squad is relying on competition at all positions to drive them to success.

SC: Every year, we hear the same old' "you lose so and so." We just forget about that and put a team together. We come out fast and physical.

A senior led defense should anchor the Lakers early, but don't overlook the offense: The Lakers are hoping Christian Hedstrom can be the next big star at quarterback.

CH: Yeah, I do like that challenge to make my name like there's.

FM: He played one game when Herzog got hurt last year. He did a great job. He's got that experience, plus, he started at wide receiver. He's been around the game. He's a very smart player. He's going to step in and I don't think there's going to be a drop off at all.

The Lakers open the season hosting Fargo North.
