NDSU Volleyball team looks to return to form after 6 win 2013 season

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The NDSU volleyball team opened practice today, trying to put last year's 6-win season behind them.

But with those lumps, came experience for a big freshmen class that will be relied upon heavily this season as sophomores.

The Bison return all of their major contributors from a year ago, and for head coach Kari Thompson who enters her fourth season as head coach, that experience needs to translate into success this fall.

Kari Thompson/NDSU Head Coach: “I think we went through that last year. That was a big eye opener with the youth that we had with the 8 freshman that we had. They're all sophomores now, so that's huge and they're all experienced sophomores which I don't think you see very much.”

Monica Claxton/NDSU Soph. Setter: “I'm less nervous. I know what I'm supposed to do. I know what's going to happen and I just have to help my teammates know what they have to do, like the freshmen. We just have to show people what we can do and not be afraid. We're young, but so what. We can still beat them.”

The Bison open the season August 29th at a tournament in Milwaukee.
