UND 2, Union 2, tie

The story: UND's Shane Gersich scored the game-tying goal with 3:18 to go in regulation to help the Fighting Hawks come away with a tie on the weekend. Union scored back-to-back goals in the span of 22 seconds at the start of the third to take the lead.

Three stars: 1. Brett Supinski, Union, goal; 2. Shane Gersich, UND, game-tying goal; 3. Jake Kupsky, Union, 27 saves.

Did you notice? Former UND standout Zach Parise dropped the ceremonial first puck of the game. Parise, now with the Minnesota Wild, returned to The Ralph with his family Saturday.

Lineup notes: There was only one personnel change from Friday to Saturday. Defenseman Casey Johnson went in for Matt Kiersted. For the second straight game, UND was down three forwards -- junior Joel Janatuinen (illness), senior Trevor Olson (upper body) and sophomore Dixon Bowen (lower body) -- so rookie defenseman Josh Rieger played right wing. The Fighting Hawks played their eighth-straight game without starting goalie Cam Johnson (lower body). Rookie Peter Thome again made the start in his place and junior Ryan Anderson served as backup. Union made one lineup change, going with Josh Kosack for Jack Adams on the second line. East Grand Forks Senior High graduate Taylor Brierley, a rookie defenseman at Union, did not make the trip because of injury.

Updated records: UND 8-4-4, Union 8-6-1.
