FARGO—North Dakota State linebacker Jabril Cox has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's freshman and newcomer of the year.

Cox, a Jerry Rice Award finalist for the top freshman in FCS football, leads NDSU with 52 tackles and nine tackles for loss. Cox is the third player in league history to win both the freshman and newcomer of the year honors.

In other awards announced by the league Wednesday, NDSU's Chris Klieman was named the league's coach of the year. His Bison will take a 10-1 record into the FCS playoffs, searching for their sixth national title in the last seven years.

South Dakota quarterback Chris Streveler was named the league's offensive player of the year. Western Illinois linebacker Brett Taylor was named the defensive player of the year.
