Winnipeg surges late to beat RedHawks

FARGO—Shawn Pleffner hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to help Winnipeg claim a 4-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in American Association Baseball Sunday at Newman Outdoor Field.

With the loss, the RedHawks (45-38) are now 5½ games behind Winnipeg (52-34) for first place in the North Division. The RedHawks are 2 games behind Gary (48-37) and 1½ games behind Kansas City (48-38) for the wild card spot for the playoffs.

K.D. Kang's two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning gave the RedHawks a 2-0 lead. Winnipeg took a 3-2 in the sixth with solo home runs from Josh Romanski and a two-run homer from David Bergin. The RedHawks tied the game 3-3 in the seventh inning when Chris Grayson drove home Brandon Tierney with a double.

The RedHawks and Goldeyes close out their four-game series with a 7:02 p.m. game Monday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
