Former UND star Dressler lands in CFL

05/11/2008

BISMARCK - Former standout University of North Dakota receiver and kick returner Weston Dressler has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. The Bismarck native graduated from the Fighting Sioux program last year with 19 school records. He had hoped to land with an NFL team, but wasn't drafted. Dressler says rather than risking getting cut at an NFL camp as a free agent, he decided to go north. He signed for two years, with both himself and the Roughriders holding an option for a third.

Lamb lifts Twins past Red Sox 7-6 with 2-run ninth-inning single

05/10/2008

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Mike Lamb lifted the Minnesota Twins past the Boston Red Sox 7-6 with a two-run single in the ninth. Delmon Young led off the ninth with a single, and advanced on a sacrifice by Matt Tolbert. Adam Everett popped out, Young stole third without a throw, and Carlos Gomez walked and moved up on a steal. Then Lamb hit a 1-2 pitch from Jonathan Papelbon, who blew his second straight save opportunity.

Lemaire to return for 8th season with Wild

05/10/2008

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Wild coach Jacques Lemaire says he'll return for an eighth season with the franchise. Lemaire announced his decision in a news release Saturday. Lemaire has a career record of 500-381-168 over 14 years, including 60-52 in the playoffs. But with the Wild, he's gone just 11-18 in the postseason. The Wild were ousted in the first round last month by the Colorado Avalanche, culminating what Lemaire called his "toughest season as a coach."
