Fargo sex offender sentenced for new sex offense with underage victim
FARGO – A Fargo man, who’s already required to register as a sex offender, was sentenced Monday, April 16, to seven years in prison for touching the breasts of a girl under the age of 15, according to Cass County District Court documents.
Troy Allen Lawrence, 54, previously pleaded guilty to a felony count of gross sexual imposition. Two other felony charges, failure to register as a sex offender and gross sexual imposition, were dismissed.
Lawrence will be given credit for 203 days already served in custody. He must also serve five years of probation, court documents said.
Assistant State’s Attorney Reid Brady said the longer sentence came as a result of Lawrence having a 2000 felony conviction for gross sexual imposition in Cass County, as well as being rated as a high risk to re-offend on one of the tests done by a presentence investigator.
According to court documents, in July 2017, the victim, who was born in 2003, told a Fargo police officer that Lawrence had sexual contact with her on multiple occasions while snuggling in a chair and wrestling.
The victim also told an employee at the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center in Fargo of other incidents, including times when Lawrence entered the bathroom while she was bathing, court documents stated.
