Nelson to seek fourth term on Fargo school board
FARGO — Robin Nelson is seeking a fourth four-year term on the Fargo Board of Education in the June 12 election.
During her 13 years on the board, Nelson served two terms as president and several terms as chairwoman of the Governmental Affairs Committee and Communications Committee.
Nelson is CEO of the Boys & Girls Club and Fargo Youth Commission, a nonprofit partnership. In 2017, she was appointed as one of 15 United States Afterschool Ambassadors, who advocate for out-of-school programming. She is the Fargo Early Childhood Education Coalition chairwoman and serves on the boards of the Great Plains Food Bank, Fargo Public Schools Foundation and the Fargo Police Department's Badges of Unity.
"Virtually every aspect of my life is committed to improving children's futures," she said in announcing her candidacy for re-election. "Being a school board member allows me to leverage my already-existing efforts to make an even bigger impact for kids."
Nelson, who is married to Russell Peterson, a Concordia professor and musician, has three children. She attended Horace Mann, Ben Franklin and North High public schools.
The Fargo school board election coincides with the June 12 primary. Five of the nine current board members' terms expire this year.
