Alleged bullying or hazing at Richland High sent to sheriff's office

FARGO — An allegation of bullying or hazing at the Richland Junior-Senior High School in Colfax, N.D., has been turned over to the Richland County Sheriff's Office for investigation, according to Superintendent Tim Godfrey.

He wouldn't specify what happened, but referred to a press release he sent out Tuesday, Jan. 23, that described the incident as "student misconduct, possibly constituting harassment, bullying, or hazing."

Godfrey learned of the alleged incident late Jan. 17 and school officials spent the next day investigating, he said. They decided to call the sheriff's office Friday morning, Jan. 19, he said, and the sheriff will decide whether it's a criminal case.

A message left with Josh Beto, an investigator with the sheriff's office, wasn't immediately returned, but the office did confirm there is an active investigation.
