Trial begins for Moorhead man accused of kidnapping, raping pregnant woman hired as exotic dancer
MOORHEAD — Jury selection started Monday, June 19, in Clay County District Court in the trial of a man accused of kidnapping and repeatedly raping a pregnant woman hired as an exotic dancer.
Jesse Paskey, 33, of Moorhead pleaded guilty in February 2013 to one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for tying up the woman who was seven months pregnant and raping her repeatedly and holding a knife to her throat.
He was sentenced in April 2013 to 25½ years in prison, but he later appealed his guilty plea claiming the prosecution coerced the plea by threatening to file witness tampering charges against his mother based on phone calls and letters intercepted by the jail that was holding Paskey at the time.
An appeals court agreed, and Paskey was allowed to withdraw his guilty plea.
He is standing trial on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of kidnapping and one count of second-degree assault.
Paskey is accused in court documents of tying up and raping the woman who had gone to his home in December 2012 to perform a dance.
