Report of suicidal person in West Fargo leads to arrest of sexual assault suspect

Sergio Hidalgo Jr.

WEST FARGO – A man was arrested here on suspicion of gross sexual imposition Thursday, March 1, after it was reported he was suicidal and had weapons in his home.

West Fargo police were called to the 100 block of 12th Street East at 9:06 a.m. Thursday after a female in the home texted 911 and said a man there was suicidal and she felt unsafe.

Assistant Police Chief Jerry Boyer said officers arrived and began to set up a perimeter around the home. As police started alerting neighbors of the situation, the man inside the home surrendered to officers without incident.

Boyer said the situation was resolved “fairly quickly,” within 49 minutes. No injuries were reported and no shots were fired, although officers did find weapons in the home.

The man arrested was identified as Sergio Hidalgo Jr., 51. Boyer said Hidalgo was booked into Cass County Jail on suspicion of gross sexual imposition.

More details weren’t available Thursday. The case is still under investigation.
