Convicted Ponsford rapist gets 15-plus years in prison
A Ponsford man found guilty of raping a 16 year old girl in the basement of his mother’s home while shoving a sock or cloth in her mouth has been sentenced to approximately 15 and a half years in prison.
Joseph Lee Bellanger was convicted of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct on April 7.
According to the report filed with Becker County District Court, the victim in the case told police Bellanger grabbed her by the hair as she tried to leave and forced her down, shoving a cloth or sock in her mouth before raping her.
She also said Bellanger hit her in the face during the assault, which was consistent with bruising officers noted.
In addition to the 15 and a half years in prison, Bellanger must also pay a $50 fine, register as a predatory offender and submit a sample of his DNA.
Upon completion of his prison sentence, he will be on supervised probation for ten years.
