METRO—We had a blast of winter last weekend and now word of a storm likely to hit our region on Sunday; that's the bad news.

The good news?

Winter actually ends Wednesday, if you believe that.

It sure looked, sounded, and felt like a Spring Melt Kind of day on Wednesday.

Meaning that the meteorological Spring starts on Thursday.

Local weather observer, Daryl Ritchison, has been measuring our new snowfall lately, all too mindful that this holiday, the Meteorological end of winter, is all about location, location, location.

"When you hear forecast, that the winter will be x or y. They are talking about December, January, February three coldest months of the year. Spring tomorrow, here in the northern plains, out winter goes till May many years, but at least statistically it ends today," said Ritchison.

While winter is over, it is perhaps a psychological win.

Another sign of spring; the Moorhead Dairy Queen on Main in Moorhead opens on Thursday.
