FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE IN LEONARD
Firefighters are monitoring hot spots this morning after a fire destroyed a house in Leonard.
Crews from Leonard, Casselton, and Kindred got the call about 6:15 last night to a house at Railroad Avenue South and 6th Street. The house was fully engulfed by the time they got there and wind fueled the flames making it tougher to fight. The homeowner tells us his old family home, that once was an old school house, was now used as a rental home. No one was currently renting and no injuries are reported. Firefighters said it started in the basement, but haven't released a cause. The chief tells us Leonard hasn't had a house fire in over a decade.
SIX PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR THEFT
Police have arrested six people in connection with a recent rash of smash and grab thefts from vehicles.
Five are from Florida and one is from South Dakota. They are all facing theft charges. The car break-ins happened between January 18th and the 22nd in local child care and gym parking lots.
VICTIM TO TESTIFY IN SEXUAL ABUSE CASE
The alleged sexual abuse victim of a small town police chief is set to testify at his trial today.
The jury trial for James Watson, the former LaMoure Police Chief, started at the Golden Valley courthouse in Beach yesterday. Watson is accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 15. The state's attorney said Watson abused the victim on a weekly basis from Fall 2011 to January 2012 while they were living in Golden Valley. Watson's attorney said the victim's story has been inconsistent and is made up.
