Senator Heidi Heitkamp votes to end government shutdown
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Heidi Heitkamp was a part of the Senate negotiations Monday.
The senator was part of the bipartisan group made up of more than 20 lawmakers that pushed to end the gridlock.
The group brokered a compromise that went through the Senate 81 to 18.
Heitkamp said the Senate acted quickly to avoid a shutdown like the 16-day shutdown in 2013.
"We have now a point of dialogue that is bipartisan, that can help frame the debate and discussion, and hopefully avoid this from happening in the future," said Senator Heidi Heitkamp, ND.
Government funding will be extended for the next three weeks.
