GRAND FORKS—A Grand Forks man says thieves broke through his front door and cracked his safe, but he's surprised by what they didn't take.

Parker Carlson says this happened on Monday.

He came home to find his medicine cabinet open and his home a mess.

Instead of stealing electronics, medicine or other expensive items he says thieves stole a lockbox with cash and documents like his birth certificate.

"Make sure you know where your medications are. You know try not to keep cash at the house. That was my downfall I shouldn't have had cash here," said Carlson.

Investigators believe the thieves were likely looking for medications and didn't find anything they wanted so they took the cash.

Officers are reminding homeowners to make sure they lock the deadbolt on their door before leaving home.
