GRAND FORKS—Dozens of people braved chilly temperatures and broke out camping gear outside the new Chick-fil-A restaurant Wednesday night, Oct. 11, hoping for free food for a year.

Many came prepared, some in cow and chicken costumes, all in celebration of the store's grand opening Thursday morning.

The first 100 people in line will get a card guaranteeing them free food for the next year.

A cow and chicken said they were honoring the company's mascots during an extended study break.

"So I was in class this morning about 9 o'clock about halfway through and one of my friends said 'hey come to Chick-fil-A, you'll get Chick-fil-A for a year,' so I got up out of class, went home grabbed all my stuff and came here," said Reed Albrech, Grand Forks.

The restaurant handed out dinner and a late night snack to people waiting for Thursday's big day.
