Cass County 17 bypass to re-open next week
HORACE, N.D. -- Construction on a Cass County 17 bypass south of Horace is expected to open early next week, according to a Flood Diversion Authority press release.
The portion of Cass County 17 south of Horace was closed earlier this summer as part of construction of the FM Area Diversion Project. The closure resulted in a six-mile detour, which impacted local residents and traffic flow from areas south and west of Fargo-Moorhead.
An injunction stopping construction of the Diversion Project halted the re-opening of Cass County 17. All parties agreed on opening the road as quickly as possible, which led to a mutually-agreeable stipulated order.
The bypass will be constructed west of the original road alignment due to a large excavation in the area. The bypass will have a gravel surface, allowing safe passage through the winter. Construction will be completed as soon as possible. The bypass is temporary, with a final alignment of the road to be determined in the future.
