Truck driver badly hurt in collision with train in Ottertail
OTTERTAIL, Minn. — A potato truck was hit by a train here Wednesday morning, Sept. 27, seriously injuring the truck driver, the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said.
According to a sheriff's office report:
Witnesses said that about 10:42 a.m., a 1984 Mack 600 potato truck driven by Kenneth Dean Betts, 32, of Richville, was traveling southeast when it crossed the railroad tracks in front of a train near 64 Elevator Drive.
The train hit the truck and pushed it along the tracks in a northwesterly direction.
Betts, whose injuries were not specified but were described as serious, was initially taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Perham Health. He was then flown to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
The train crew was not injured, the sheriff's office said.
