Target hiring for holiday season, helps local economy
FARGO—Despite our recent heat wave, the holiday season is right around the corner.
Target is already hiring for the holiday season, by adding on 100,000 employees, which is up 40 percent from last year.
This news is causing a buzz for our local economy.
Some of those jobs will be filled right here.
"I just think it's very encouraging," said David Hunstad, Moorhead Business Association.
Encouraging and surprising.
Moorhead Business Association executive director David Hunstad says most businesses, his included, are focused online.
"Certainly more convenient to click on a computer screen and order online, but the local economy really depends on local, in store shopping," said Hunstad.
Something that may surprise you is how much a national retailer can help the local economy, both in how big companies view consumers and those working for those national retailers.
"They do have some confidence, increasing their employee level shows that they're expecting a big holiday season," said Heather Johnson, Better Business Bureau.
"Stores, to operate retail, even the big box stores need staff, and the staff are local and the paychecks are cashed here and then spent here," said Hunstad.
Whether you're looking for a part-time gig or extra aisle assistance, help is wanted and you're helping more than your own pocket book.
Each store will also be holding a hiring fair.
