Cass County Sheriff's Office warns of scam

CASS COUNTY -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office would like to inform the public of a scam going around the Fargo-Moorhead area.

According to a news release sent out Wednesday, an individual is contacting victims and identifying himself as a Cass County Deput. This individual is telling people they have an active warrant and will be arrested by the end of the day if payment is not received.

More than 20 calls were made to the Cass County Sheriff's Department main office requesting further information on the warrant. Victims were notified by sheriff's office personnel that it is an active scam.

Sergeant Tim Briggeman stated in the news release that under no circumstances is bond payment requested by sheriff's office personnel over the phone. A warrant payment will be accepted, however the bond must be paid in cash and must be done at the court house, according to the release.
