NDSU to host 21st annual Sonia Kovalevsky Day

FARGO -- The North Dakota State University Department of Mathematics will host the 21st annual Sonia Kovalevsky DAy from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematics High School Day is a program of math activities, games and career information for females in grades 9-12.

Participants in the event will meet NDSU mathematics faculty, professional women from the Fargo area who use mth in their careers and other high school students with an interest in math.

According to the NDSU press release, women make up about half the workforce but are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, occupations. The goal of the Sonia Kovalevsky DAy is to encourage females to continue studying math and pursue careers in STEM disciplines.

NDSU Department of Mathematics, NDSU College of Science and Mathematics, NDSU School of Education, NDSU Bookstore, Sanford Health and Microsoft support the program.
