North Dakota postal worker pleads guilty to stealing money
FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A postal worker from North Dakota has pleaded guilty to stealing money from a registered mail sack.
Ronald Slattery is charged in federal court with mail theft. Authorities say he took money that was intended to be delivered from the post office in Jamestown to the post office in Oakes.
Court documents show that prosecutors are recommending a sentence of six months in prison. Defense attorneys are asking for probation.
Slattery is being asked to pay back more than $10,000, which the government says represents proceeds from the crime.
A federal public defender could not be reached for comment Monday night.
