180,000 Gallons of Brine Spilled in Northwest North Dakota
(WDAY News) The state Department of Health says almost 180- thousand gallons of saltwater has spilled in northwestern North Dakota.
The department says Sampson Resources reported the spill. Almost 10- thousand gallons have been recovered so far. No surface waters have been impacted by the spill so far.
Brine is an unwanted byproduct of oil production and is considered an environmental hazard by the state. It can easily kill vegetation exposed to it.
Department of Health officials say they will work with the company on a remediation plan.
