Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Day 2 of the 10th annual Fargo Marathon is officially in the books with the main event still ahead of us.

It also served as party central as the Johnny Holm Band played a free concert Friday night.

But before that nearly 10,000 runners and walkers took part in the 5k a course that took them through 2 bridges, 2 states and 3.1 miles of downtown Fargo and Moorhead.

Early this morning final preparations were being made for all of the race courses.

Most of the 'road closed' and 'no parking signs' went up Thursday with police clearing those routes today.

Police also set up a now fully functional command center to handle problems that arise this weekend.

At a morning press conference organizers said they expect as many as 23,000 people will take part in this year's Fargo Marathon events making it the largest yet.

Dick Beardsley/ Spoke at First Fargo Marathon: "It's unbelievable. For an event like this, to grow that large in such a short period of time, it just doesn't happen. It really doesn't happen without a lot of community support."

In comparison, the first Fargo Marathon included 2,000 runners.

Drew Trafton

I joined the WDAY 6 news team in September of 2013 as a weekend anchor and reporter. I am currently the Assitant News Director and 5p.m. anchor. Previous to arriving in the F-M area, I worked as a broadcast journalist at the CBS affiliate (KTVQ) in Billings, Montana (sidenote: my hometown). I have worn many hats in my young broadcast career as an anchor, reporter, producer, sports producer and online producer. However, my favorite role to play is storyteller. Off the clock (are we ever really off the clock?) I enjoy taking in a sporting event on TV or in person. On the professional level, I root for Seattle teams. As a graduate of the University of Montana, I also enjoys FCS football (but forgive my allegiance). I also enjoy reading, watching movies, listening to good music and frolicking in the outdoors. I enjoy those things all the more when I can do them with my wife and our daughter. If you have a story idea for me, or just want to say hello, you can send me an email!
