Auction raises money for veterans
GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) -- People in East Grand Forks are raising money to support American heroes in the community and take care of our troops.
People donated a variety of items to the Disabled American Veterans live auction this afternoon.
Hundreds of people showed up at the American Legion in East Grand Forks, with money in hand, to place bids for the items.
One veteran says he's overwhelmed by the support the community is showing him and his band of brothers.
"We normally don't give the cash out it’s just gift cards,” said Arnold Phillips, a U.S Army Veteran, and member of Disabled American Veterans. “So for laundry, and things like that just every day, every day things, just light little things that can make a difference in their lives."
Some of the auction items ranged from baked goods to blankets and even a high-tech vaccuum called a Roomba.
