You don't have to go to New York for a taste of Broadway.

Horizon Middle Schoolers are bringing the tradition to Moorhead.

This week, 6th through 8th graders are performing "Fiddler on the Roof."

The show includes more than 65 students.

A guest artist and mentor, Moorhead orchestra teacher Jon Larson, is also guest-starring.

Set in early 20th century Russian, the story centers around a father's attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions.

Theater director Kelly Dubois-Gerchak says the performance has been an opportunity for the actors to learn history and make modern-day connections.

Dubois-Gerchak says, "Figuring out that we're really not that much different, when it really comes down to the things that are really important in life."

The play opens on Thursday at Moorhead High School.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances start at 7pm. A Sunday matinee begins at 2pm.
