Moorhead teen describes playing with music idol at WE Fest
Fargo, N.D. (WDAY-TV) – Dan Brekke held only the faintest of hopes that 3 simple words lobbied by a friend from a social media account would land him on a stage with one of his musical idols.
Then, ‘#letbrekkeplay’ took on a life of its own on Twitter.
“"There were people I didn't know that were tweeting the hashtag,” said Brekke.
Thanks to that support from fans, family and friends, Brekke’s wish to meet country music star Brad Paisley was not only noticed but also granted.
Hours before the show, Brekke said one of people working for Paisley sent him a direct message on Twitter, telling him he was going to meet the icon back stage.
"This guy was the easiest guy (to talk to),” said Brekke. “It was like I walked in and I had been best friends with him."
However, the 18-year-old didn’t realize he’d actually get the opportunity to play with Paisley until he was invited on stage during the very last song of the WE Fest concert.
"I can't even describe the emotion I felt on the inside," said Brekke. "It was like heaven raining down. Just lights and smoke. And I'm looking out and people are saying, ‘Well, who is this guy, you know?’ "
Brekke met the opportunity with gusto, even taking Paisley up on an invitation to play a solo during the song.
But his performance should come as no surprise.

Brekke said he will be using the performance to further his musical ambitions.
“It has given me a whole new taste for something I l already knew I wanted but now I want it so much worse,” said Brekke.
