The incoming President of the State Board of Higher Education says the board is trying to set up a meeting between all parties involved with the Fighting Sioux nickname issue. A date just needs to be settled upon.
A new state law requiring the University of North Dakota to keep its Fighting Sioux nickname won't shield the school from penalties for continuing to use a moniker the NCAA considers hostile to American Indians, an NCAA executive told the school Tuesday.
With the UND men’s hockey team playing in next week’s Frozen Four, the NCAA’s online store is selling Fighting Sioux apparel. The decision has some wondering how the NCAA can promote selling the apparel yet reached a settlement with the university to retire the logo and nickname.

An online news source says the University of North Dakota used its planes to ferry students and administrative staff to Bismarck to testify against the Fighting Sioux nickname bill.
UND students are divided in what should be done about the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. Monday's vote meant different things for different students. They're responding to this new development in what is becoming a Fighting Sioux tug of war.
