DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Federal agriculture officials have released a plan to let farmers plant genetically modified sugar beets while a lawsuit over them is resolved, but farmers fear a partial lifting of a court-ordered ban won't come in time for next year's crop.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A judge's ruling halting planting of genetically modified sugar beet seeds has left growers feeling uncertain as they wait for federal officials to decide the next step for a crop that provides half of the nation's sugar supply.
Felton, Minn. (WDAY TV) - There is uncertainty for the sugar beet industry in the valley after a judge's ruling over the use of genetically modified sugar beet seeds also known as Roundup Ready. Environmental groups and farmers have been disagreeing on its safety in food for years. Now, farmers say they're left waiting on the USDA to see if and when they can use these seeds.
East Grand Forks, Minn. (WDAY TV) - The East Grand Forks American Crystal Sugar plant just finished processing its sugar beets, and says it was a challenging year. Last Saturday at 2 am, Crystal Sugar finished its processing and now is cleaning up its factory.
