Oakport Township, Minn. (WDAY TV) - If we don't help ourselves how do we expect volunteers to help us? That message today from Oakport, as it extends the deadline for people to sign up to pay a special assessment for flood protection.
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Engineers in Fargo have come up with a design to put up dikes at seven strategic areas in town. The plan is to put up earthen levees in these areas to reduce the amount of sandbagging and hesko barriers needed. Engineers say if they're built, there will be a night and day difference between last spring's flood fight, and another possible one this spring.
Oakport Township, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Oakport Township leaders say they have a solution that would make fighting another spring flood much easier. They want to build a series of temporary ring dikes that would protect all but about 60 homes in the township. But first, they've got to get people in the township on board. Tonight, they put together a special meeting to introduce the idea, and get some feedback.
(WDAY TV) - It's not just people in our region pushing for flood protection. People from all over the world are offering their products and ideas to help in a potential 2010 flood fight. The options run the gamut from permanently freezing the river to million dollar machines.
(WDAY TV) - What we have here in the Red River Valley is a recipe for a flood and the National Weather Service says it’s not too early to start preparing for a major one. Greg Gust of NWS told a crowd of Minnesota leaders the dynamite is set and a rapid snowmelt would light the fuse. He says additional moisture will also be a big determining factor.
Oakport Township, Minn. (WDAY TV) - The latest projections are forcing some community leaders to issue a stern warning to their residents. The Chairman of Oakport Township is telling people to stay vigilant, be aware, and no matter what the forecast, prepare for a flood.
(WDAY TV) - The second public flood meeting was the same as the first, packed. Homeowners in Minnesota filed in to see how a diversion would impact their lives. The Army Corps of Engineers is looking at three diversion sizes for just Minnesota. They range from 15 hundred to 22 hundred feet wide; the land use, five to seven thousand acres.
