(WDAZ-TV) - Supporters of the Fighting Sioux nickname on the Spirit Lake Reservation say it's a sad day for the state of North Dakota after Governor Jack Dalrymple signed a law that allowed UND to drop it.
GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Spirit Lake Tribe's lawsuit comes just a week ahead of a special legislative session during which it is widely expected that lawmakers will free UND up to retire the nickname and logo.
FORT TOTTEN, ND (WDAZ-TV) - The Spirit Lake Nation, one of two tribes the University of North Dakota needed to approve the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo, says it plans to make a 'major' announcement on the next step in their efforts to preserve the use of the name and logo by UND.
GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Members of the Spirit Lake Sioux tribe in Fort Totten, ND, sent a letter to Big Sky Conference commissioner Doug Fullerton on Monday saying that opposition to UND's use of the "Fighting Sioux" nickname constitutes harassment.
