Crop irrigation has boomed in Minnesota in the past few years, increasing land values and raising yields for corn, soybeans and other crops. But hundreds of Minnesota farmers appear to be irrigating cropland without the state permits required to use large volumes of public water.

(CNN) -- Ten days after a radiation leak was reported at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant outside Carlsbad, New Mexico, tests on samples collected from numerous areas in the plant found "slightly elevated" levels of airborne radioactivity, the U.S. Department of Energy said.
ST. PAUL -- Two Upper Midwest governors have issued emergency orders to help their residents deal with a propane shortage, with prices at the highest levels ever, while those in the region who depend on the gas for heat face continued bitterly cold temperatures.
