DULUTH -– From 2010 to 2012, there were 39 suspicious fires in the Babbitt area, Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Dunne told a judge Thursday. In December 2012, authorities began investigating Babbitt Fire Chief Ryan Scharber, who promptly resigned his position. Since that time, Dunne said, there has not been a single suspected arson.

ST. CLOUD -- Alyssa Lommel, the University of Minnesota Duluth student who suffered frostbite after spending several hours outside in subzero temperatures, was on the search for an electric hand last week.
DULUTH –- The Duluth man who raped an 89-year-old resident of the Edgewood Vista independent living facility in Hermantown, where he worked as a certified nursing assistant, has agreed to a settlement with the victim.
