Wild horses

This Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 picture released by the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management shows wild horses after a BLM roundup at the Caliante Complex gather near Panaca, Nev. Thousands of mustangs that now roam the West would be moved to preserves in the Midwest and East under a new Interior Department plan to protect wild horse herds and the rangelands that support them. But many horse defenders say they want the Interior Department to remove livestock to make room for the mustangs and argue that cows are the real threat to the range and native wildlife.
