Homeowners in Minot affected by the Souris River flooding in 2011 can begin applying for grants to help with repair costs, while the city prepares to buy out more homes to make way for a flood protection project. The grant application period opened Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, and runs through the end of the year for up to $10,000 in reimbursements for eligible homeowners hurt by the flood that damaged or destroyed more than 4,000 homes, businesses and other structures two years ago. The flooding caused by heavy spring snowmelt and rains caused an estimated $690 million in damage. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast, File)
