Minnesota Orchestra Lockout

Tim Zavadil and other Minnesota Orchestra musicians announce they are rejecting the newest offer by management to resolve a labor contract during a news conference outside Orchestra Hall Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in Minneapolis. Zavadil said the secret ballot on the management offer was unanimous, although he did not say how many of the players voted. The musicians also voted unanimously to urge the orchestra's board of directors to reconsider a proposal put forward by former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell. The board rejected that plan in August. Management locked out the musicians 11 months ago after they rejected the board's first offer. Music director Osmo Vanska has threatened to resign if Carnegie Hall cancels two November concerts featuring the orchestra. Vanska has said the orchestra must be in rehearsal by Sept. 30 to be ready.
