Star

This Thursday June 24, 2010 photo shows Star, a German-Shepherd mix, in Fergus Falls, Minn. Someone wanted to be rid of Star who was left for dead with a slit throat in Otter Tail County. But Star survived her injuries for several days before she was found and brought to a veterinarian. Now she's on the mend and apparently will survive. County humane society manager Ericka Stoltenberg called Star's survival amazing given how long she went without care. The dog had a surgery scheduled for Friday to more securely close her wound, and was headed for a foster home afterward. (AP Photo/The Daily Journal, Jeffrey Hage)
