The U.S. Postal Service announced that 88 Minnesota post offices and branches are among the nearly 3,700 being considered for closure nationwide.

The Euclid, MN, post office is on that list, but its fate is already sealed as it will close its doors for good this Friday.

On Wednesday, there was an open house for retiring postmaster Ron Goodyke at the Euclid post office. He's retiring and his last day will be this Friday.

Suzie Larson fills in for Ron when he needs time off. But she will also be done Friday because that's when the Euclid post office closes its doors for good.

The postmaster's job was advertised, but the Postal Service decided in the end just to close it. Those who didn't have a mailbox in town have them put them up to prepare.

"I'm going to miss the service for the stamps, and once in a while I mail things," post officer customer Heather Michaelson said.

"It is closer to drive here then it is to Crookston. So we do get all our stamps here. We mail packages here," Larson said.

The Euclid post office is on a list of 3,700 post offices nationwide that face closure. The U.S Postal Service says many of the locations that will be closed may be replaced by so-called "village post offices" which offer some postal services at stores, libraries or government offices.

That's not likely in Euclid since those don't exist.

What might be missed in addition to sending letters is the social hub the post office has become for this small town.
