A rural Grand Forks County home was destroyed by a late-night fire Wednesday night.
No one was home when the fire started and there were no injuries.
Firefighters responded to alarms at 1810 12th St. NE around 11:30 p.m. and found the home engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were on the scene for about eight hours trying to save surrounding buildings on the property.
The cause is not yet determined and the state fire marshal will be investigating.
"We got in there and found out there was a trailer house originally, and they put in a basement underneath it, and then they made it a split level out of it. And it was pretty much impossible to attack it. We started attacking it, then found out we were losing ground so we thought we'd just save all the structures around the area," Thompson Fire Chief Gary Adams said.
Firefighters from Emerado, Thompson, and Manvel were on scene. About 24,000 gallons of water were used.
The home is a total loss.
