The man arrested after a Beltrami County (MN) sword fight Tuesday morning has been formally charged and identified.
The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says 28-year-old Lucas Wayne French of Bemidji, MN, allegedly engaged in a sword fight with another man in a rural Beltrami County home in Liberty Township on Jessie Court NW, leaving a 10-year-old child injured.
The home is about eight miles north of Bemidji.
French was arrested after authorities investigated the report of an assault at the home involving weapons.
French was attempting to leave the home on a bicycle. He was allegedly drinking with the homeowner when he suddenly attacked the homeowner with the sword. The victim then grabbed another sword to defend himself.
A 10-year-old child was struck in the elbow during the fight and was treated and released at a local hospital. The homeowner had injuries that didn't need treatment.
French was booked into the Beltrami County jail and his bail has been set at $50,000 with conditions.
He's charged with malicious punishment of a child, 4th degree assault of a police officer, both felonies. French is charged with dangerous weapons and reckless handling, both misdemeanors.
