Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -It was an electrifying way to open the state boys hockey tournament.
The games have been streaming live on wday.com and broadcast on 6-dash-3 throughout the day.
And many of you were glued to the West Fargo-Bismarck Century quarterfinal.
That's because it lasted two overtimes.
West Fargo trailed 2-1 with under a minute and a half, when they scored after a scrum in front, Tyler Berginski gets it to go.
It was reviewed upstairs, but the refs confirm the goal and the "Cinderella" Packers force overtime.
Then double overtime, and with tired skates, Century turns it over in their own zone, and West Fargo sophomore Ben Dirks makes them pay, scoring the game-winner in double-overtime.
The Packers, who were the seventh seed in the EDC tournament, are moving onto the final four with a 3-2 win.
Ben Dirks, West Fargo sophomore: “When I was crashing down on the net and I saw him coming around from the left side and saw he was gonna pass it through the middle and I took a step and looks like I got it. It's awesome, just a rush.”
Bailey Vareberg, 29 saves: “Towards the end of the season we knew we were going to play the same guys again so we knew if we played well enough we could definitely beat them. We started to working together more.”
Troy Miller, West Fargo co-head coach: “All tournaments are special, I'm just really excited for these kids at 3 and 9 it would have been real easy to throw in the towel and start pointing fingers and doubt the coaching staff, but they stuck with us and they have grown every week and we are just tickled for them.”
