Two Fargo chefs up for top culinary award

Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Two chefs from The Hotel Donaldson in Fargo have their names on the table for a top culinary award.

Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Two chefs from The Hotel Donaldson in Fargo have their names on the table for a top culinary award.

It's often called the "Oscars of Food" and Hodo co-chefs Ryan Nitschke and Nick Weinhandl could take home the cake.

The two have been using their tasteful talents together at the Hodo since 2012, and are now semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation Award, going to the best chef in the Midwest.

They are the only nominees from North Dakota, but they are up against 19 others, many cooking in the Twin cities area.

Ryan Nitschke, HoDo co-chef: “Pretty much for our career, this is like the culmination of what we do, of all of our hard work and everything we've done and our team.”

Nick Weinhandl, HoDo co-chef: “It's pretty amazing. It's one of those things where you see it happen and you can't really believe it. There are so many talented chefs in the Midwest and it's such an honor to be mentioned next to them.”

Nick and Ryan should find out if they are two of five finalists on March 18.
