Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Just two years ago Zach Kraft become a local hero on the north side of Fargo when he ended a 26 year state title drought for the hockey team scoring the game winning goal in double overtime against Grafton to secure the Spartans first championship since 1986. That was the best of times for him.

He's dealing with one of the worst now, as Kraft was diagnosed with brain cancer just a few days ago. For a young man who's already lost his mom to cancer, you'd think he'd be devastated, but his former coach says otherwise.

Rob Aasand - North Head Coach: “His mindset is unbreakable. He's a positive kid; he's the most positive kid I've ever met. This news doesn't faze him; he cares about accomplishing the next goal in his life. Nothing is going to stop him. He said to me and to his family and to everybody 'We will get through this.' It's just another step in life.”

Kraft is playing junior hockey with the Wisconsin Wilderness.

The Kraft family is asking for donations to help with medical costs. You can go to go-fund-me.com/zachkraft or to any Bell State Bank and donate in care of the Zach Kraft Benefit Fund.
