Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's been a week of denial for Yankee fans after the news that captain Derek Jeter announced that 2014 will be his final year in baseball.

Jeter missed nearly the entire 2013 season with injuries, and that came after a year he hit over 300.

He says it's not because he's breaking down, but he's ready to be done with baseball.

Derek Jeter/Yankees Shortstop: “I look forward to doing other things… not yet, but the idea of doing other things is something that I look forward to. So, I know that a lot of people have turned this into physically I can’t do this, I can’t do that. Look, I’ve been fortunate. I’ve played pretty much my entire career with only one major injury, besides a dislocated shoulder for six weeks. I’ve been fortunate; I can’t sit here and complain about what happened last year but I’m just ready to do other things.”
